FAQ

Is there Saturday and Sunday packet pickup?   Yes, there is both Saturday, 1-3 PM, packet pickup and Sunday morning packet pickup at Lot 10 inside Lake Perris State Recreation Area, 17801 Lake Perris Dr, Perris, CA US 92571.  Athletes are required to show ID and only the athlete can pickup their registration materials.  Not a relative, friend or relay team member.  There is a $10 parking fee on Sunday morning.

Does Saturday packet pickup include Saturday Courtesy Bike Drop-Off?  Yes.  Courtesy Bike Drop-Off is on Saturday at 1-3 PM after athletes complete packet pickup.  Saturday packet pickup is highly recommended but not required.  There is no parking fee for Saturday packet pickup.

What is Sunday's race schedule?  LINK

Will the race be "wetsuit legal"?  Yes, the forecasted water temperature is 62.  A wetsuit is recommended if the water temperature is between 58-65 degrees.  Need a wetsuit?  We recommend Blueseventy.com.  The 20% CALTRI discount code helps a lot.

How does a seeded, rolling swim start work?  A seeded, rolling swim start is used as a swim safety feature to minimize athlete contact in the water. Athletes self-seed based on their projected swim time with faster athletes near the front and slower athletes at the back. An athlete’s race time starts when they cross the timing mat shortly before entering the water.  Staff and volunteers are in the staging area with signs and will assist with the process.

Where can athletes find the course information?  Athletes are responsible to study and know the course.  The race has 14 separate events and 2 different starting points.  Every event that includes a swim discipline starts at the beach.  The 5K/10K and RunBikeRun events start at the race finish line.  We highly recommend that athletes familiarize themselves with the bike and run course by driving or riding it prior to the race if possible.  There is a pre race clinic which includes a preview of both the sprint & Olympic bike course.

Go Digital.  Every Ride and Route on Ride with GPS can be downloaded as a TCX Course, TCX History, FIT Course, GPX Track, CSV, or KML file.  TCX Course and FIT Course files contain all the turn-by-turn navigation.  Instructions to do that are HERE. The alternative is to go old school and tape a copy of the turn by turn cue sheets on their bike.  There are police at major intersections and volunteer course marshals at other key locations as well as route arrows markings on the road.  The police are primarily there to provide athletes the right of way at intersections and not provide course instructions.  Athletes are responsible to study and know the course.

Where and how many aid stations are there?  There is aid station support every mile on the run course.

Aid Station #1.  Run Start & Run Finish (Lot 9)
Aid Station #2:  1 Mile & 2 Mile (Lot 1)

Can I wear headphones during the race?  Run?  No.  It is not safe because it could prevent you from hearing other athletes near you or directions from volunteers and staff.

What should I expect from a "socially distanced" race?  World Triathlon COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines for Event Organizers guidelines combined with those from the state and local agencies will be in effect.  We are bending over backwards to give this race the best possible chance of happening.  Athlete precautions include:

  • Expanded Transition Areas.  A doubling of the transition area and only 3 athletes per rack
  • Temperature Screening.  Temperature check prior to packet pickup.
  • Streamlined Packet Pickup.  All materials including the finisher medal provided before the race.
  • Seeded Rolling Swim Starts.  This format is a standard for Cal Tri Events races but seems particularly useful this year.
  • Mask Usage.  Mask usage first thing in the morning until athletes enter the water.  Masks will be provided to athletes at the finish line.  Masks are standard issue for volunteers, staff and anyone else associated with the race.
  • Sparse Aid Stations.  Bottled water and gels will be provided on the run course by a limited number of volunteers.

Should I bring my cheering section?  Sadly, not for 2021.  Please explain to your friends and family that we need to minimize the impact on the Perris community and participation is exclusively athletes, volunteers and staff.

What will the bathroom situation look like?  As always, portable toilets will be available.  Disinfectant wipes and solution will be available to wipe door handles, toilet handles, bathroom faucet handles, etc.  Race staff will clean bathrooms several times during the day.

How will the award ceremonies be conducted?  Top 3 overall awards ceremonies for each event (M/F) will be conducted.  Please consult the race day schedule for times.  Athletes will be required to wear masks and we will maintain 6' of distance.  Note:  Cal Tri Events races do not include age group award event ceremonies.  With 14 events and up to 20 age groups it isn't practical due to time constraints.  All Cal Tri Events participants are eligible for pride and prizes in the Grand Prix USA.
